Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint- Laurent, known as Yves Saint Laurent

(August 1, 1936- June 1, 2008)

 

Yves was an Algerian born French fashion designer who was considered one of the greatest figures in French fashion during the 20th century.Yves got his big break when he entered the International wool Secretariat Competition for the 2nd time and won, shortly after his win, he brought a number of sketches to Michael de Brunhoff, editor-in-chief of the Paris edition of Vogue magazine. De Brunhoff recognized that Yves sketches was very similar to Christian Dior sketch De Brunhoof immediately sent Yves to Christian Dior who hire him with no hesitation. Dior met with Yves and his mother to tell them that he had chosen Yves to succeed him as designer. Yves was confused because Dior was only 52 years old, and later that year Dior died of a massive heart attack. Yves found himself at the age of 21 the head designer of the House of Dior.
