1980–1989 Timeline

The original timeline spans from Friday the 13th (1980) through Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989). This era establishes Jason’s transformation from a human killer into a near supernatural force that cannot easily be stopped, no matter how many times he is defeated.

In the first Friday film, Jason is not the killer, but his presence drives the story. His mother, Pamela Voorhees murders camp counselors to avenge Jason's owning. After she is killed Jason emerges in Part 2 as an adult, living in the woods by Camp Crystal Lake. Jason begins stalking and killing anyone who enters the area, acting as a protector of his territory and avenger of his mother. These films also include protagonists who survives Jason's brutal attacks.

The timeline ends with Jason Takes Manhattan, where Jason finally leaves Camp Crystal Lake and travels into New York City, continuing his killing spree in a new environment. Despite being repeatedly destroyed or incapacitated, Jason’s continued survival reinforces his role as an eternal embodiment of vengeance.

1993–2003 Timeline

This timeline begins with Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) and continues through Freddy vs. Jason (2003). These films expand Jason’s mythology and connect him through other horror franchises introducing more supernatural elements to his character.

In Jason Goes to Hell, Jason is seemingly killed by the FBI, but his evil spirit survives and possesses other innocents allowing him to continue killing spree without being in his physical body. The film reveals that Jason’s power may be tied to a demonic force, further expanding his supernatural nature.

In Freddy vs. Jason, Jason is tricked by Freddy Krueger into returning to Elm Street to spread fear around the town, allowing Freddy to regain his power. The two killers eventually clash in a brutal battle, with Jason being portrayed as the more physically dominant force, while Freddy retains control within the dream world. The film ends without a clear winner reinforcing both characters as nearly unstoppable.

Future Timeline

Jason X (2001) takes the Friday the 13th franchise into a completely different setting placing Jason Voorhees in the future. The film begins in the early 2000s where Jason has been captured by the government and is being held at a research facility due to his inability to be permanently killed. After a failed execution attempt, Jason breaks free and kills the scientists, but is eventually contained through cryogenic freezing along with a scientist named Rowan.

Hundreds of years later in the year 2455, Earth has become uninhabitable, and humans now live on a new planet called Earth II. A group of students exploring the abandoned Earth discover Jason’s frozen body and unknowingly bring him aboard their spaceship. Once revived, Jason quickly resumes his killing spree, slaughtering the crew in increasingly brutal and creative ways within the confined environment of the ship.

2009 Timeline

This reboot of Friday the 13th reimagines Jason with a more grounded and realistic approach while still maintaining his characteristics. This version combines some elements from the first four films into one storyline.

In this timeline, Jason is seen as a survivalist who lives in underground tunnels which is near Camp Crystal Lake. He is faster, more strategic, and more intelligent compared to the other Friday films. Jason is seen setting traps and using the environment to hunt his victims. His motivation remains tied to protecting his territory and avenging his mother.
