The question of whom embodied the best survival skills propelled Bob Gurnsey, Bob James, and Charles Gaines to develop the agile game of paintballing. In 1981 this group of ambitious New Yorkers stepped foot outside of New York streets to play a fun game of hunting. This game included hunting that included no weapon , instead they would use paint balls to brilliantly decorate their opponent. The one with the most paintball splatters was revered as the one with the least impressive survival skills. According to thepaintballprofessor.com, the first orchestrated game of paintball was played on June 21, 1981 with just a few friends playing to help develop rules and so on. Within two years the game of paintball had gained popularity, with its first official tournament being held in 1983.
