The Project

The goal was to get rid of my fear of ruining a $70 motherboard and to experience working with real hardware components. Making it a personal goal to repair since all is already lost.

What I Did

Disassembled, diagnosed and repaired faulty components. Which was the stick modual. Learned the best replacement was magnetic hall effect sticks to ensure that the product doesn't wear off after 6-7 months.

What I Learned

How hardware and software interact at a system level. Patience, precision and understanding internal components. Disassembly of the wire system, and analyzing points.

Tools Used

Screwdrivers, soldering iron, multimeter, thermal paste, a cracked open window and a lot of patience.

In the end

Me - 1
Broken Motherboard - 0
I will update this tally as I go along but I have a personal goal to fix 5 more controllers. After feeling fully confident in my hobby, I want to offer this service for those in my community. The service would cost significantly lower than buying a new controller, and have joysticks with longer lasting life. Anyways stay tuned!
