Hydroelectric Energy

Hydroelectricity is the use of water to produce energy. It like solar, wind, and geothermal is a source of renewable energy. Renewable energy is any energy that is provided by naturally occurring and nearly infinite source (Dictionary.com). The United States Energy Information Administration states, "Renewable energy plays an important role in reducing greenhouse gases. When renewable energy sources are used, the demand for fossil fuels is reduced." (EIA). Hydroelectric energy is necessary to reduce the worlds reliance on fossil fuels and it is a relatively safe alternative.
