The History of Rap or Hip Hop Music
- Originated in the Bronx
- Involved four elements: deejaying, emceeing, breakdancing, and grafitti.
- deejaying involved reciting rythms over instrumental beats.
- drew its influence from the Jamaican style of deejaying, which gave way to the new style that was being adopted.
- it spread through out the other boroughs of New York City mainly through block parties; then its influences spread to all corners of the Union.
- another way it spread fast were through the addition of battling. This took place where two deejays would rap about each other showing who has more skill and wordplay over a beat.
- some of the first songs recorded were "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang and King Tim by the Fatback Gang.
