Entry requirements

Most people traveling to the Dominican Republic require a Passport along with either a Tourist Card or Visa. There are exceptions to these rules. Because requirements for citizens of certain countries can change from time to time, it would be wise to check with a local Travel Agent or the Dominican Republic Consulate or Embassy in your country, as to what documentation you may require from your country.

Passports

passports valid for six months after date of departure required by all except:

1* nationals of Canada holding appropiate ID such as a birth certificate or a drivers licence accompined by a photo ID document, provided travelling or business or touristic purposes; but if you are stopping in the USA, you need a passport.

2* nationals of Belgium, France, Germany , Luxembourg and Netherlands holding a national identity card at the discretion of immigration.

 

tip: these nationals will also require tourist cards, which may be purchased on arrival.

 

Tourist cards

Issued tp travellers visiting the Dominican Republic for tourist purposes for days up to two weeks. tourist cards can be applied for in advance ( it maight take a few days to obtain it), and therefore ussually bought and issued at a cost of US $10.00 . extensions of up to three months are posible by visiting the Immigration departement in Santo Domingo; failture to do so will result in a surchange at the airport upon departure.

Nationals of Andorra,Antigua & Barbuda,Aruba,The Bahamas,Barbados,Bolivia,Brazil,Costa Rica,Croatia,Curacao,Dominica,El Salvador,Guadalupe,Guatemala,Guayana,Honduras,Jamaica,macedonia,Mantinique,Mexico,Monaco,Paraguay,Puerto Rico,Reunion,Russian Federation,St Kitts & Nvis,St Lucia, St Maarten, St Vincent & the Grenadines,St Marino,Serbia and Montenegro,Suriam,Switzerland,Trinidad & tobago,Turks & Caicos Islands,Ukraine,Us Virgin Islands and Venezuela.

 

note: Many travel angents/tour operators invclude tourist card as part of your flight or package holiday. Please consult with yours to find out if this has been included.

If not, a tourist card must be purchased at all airports upon rrival in the Dominucan Rpublic.To save you time, have a pen handy to fill in the information requested on the card and exact US dollar change for its payment.

 

Visas

Required by all exept:

holders of a tourist card;resisdents,regardless of nationality, of Argentina,Chile,Ecuador,Iceland,Israel,Japan,Korea(Rep),Liechtenstein,Peru,and Uruguay, may enter to the Dominican Republic without a visa or tourist card.

tip: Ian addition to a valid visa, nationals of china require an authorization from the director of the migration/Immigration department.

 

Types of Visas

there are a number of different types of visas ex: working,student etc..- issued by Dominican consulates/Embassies ( in your country) or the secretary os state for foreign affairs. you can check with your travel agent or the Dominican Republic consulate or Embassy in yor country and nearest location/area.

 

Check in information:

Illicit drugs, such as Marijuana and Cocaine,are strictly illegal in the Dominican Republic, and these laws are severly enforced.Baggage may be closely inspected when entering the country and penalties for possession,even for very small amounts,are extremely severe.
