The American Revolution
The American Revolution was a war fought between the British and the thirteen Colonies (1775-83), but it was much more than a war or a revolt against taxes and trade regulations.
It is considered the first modern revolution.it gained popular support from many other countries such as France. it marked the for the first time in history an “age of revolution” where people fought for their independence in the name of the universal principles of human rights and civil liberties.The American Revolution was fought for the principles of:
popular sovereignty: is the principle that the authority of the government is created and sustained by the consent of its people, through their elected representatives (Rule by the People), who are the source of all political power.
Constitutional rights and rule of law: the idea that the people have certain fundamental rights that must be protected against tyrannical oppression, including the right to trial by jury, freedom of speech and conscience, and freedom from arbitrary arrest and punishment.
Equality before the law: The doctrine that all persons, regardless of wealth, social status, or the political power wielded by them, are to be treated the same before the law.
