Welcome to the Traditional Music of Africa. African Music is a way of life where traditional instruments are used in portraying dialogues. In the country of Nigeria, a perfect example of the traditional instrument that is used in potraying dialogue is the Talking Drum.
The Talking Drum
The Talking Drum is an traditional instrument incorporated with the African music. Another name which is called Apala (Akpala) is a musical genre from the country of Nigeria which is used to serve as difference means.
This instrumentation includes some other forms of African musical instruments. Below are the names of the little accompanied instruments and their names in the Nigerian dialect.They are as follows:
- The Rattle called Sekere.
- Thumb Piano called Agidigo in Yoruba language.
- Bell called Agogo in Yoruba language.
- Two or three other talking drum.
Furthermore, the talking drum comprises of the drum, two rounded shape with is hit by it stick, curved anfd rounded at the top. The talking drum is inserted into the arms and played to bring out sounds with sweet and smelling savor.

A Talking drummer is simply a person be it a male or a female who plays the talking drum. With my vast experience so far, both young and old, male and female are very interested in this talking drum. Though, majority of people think that the talking drum is for the male counterparts and they are doing well. "It's not."
Ara
"Ara" which means "Wonders" in the Yoruba language is one of the country's better known and rare female talking drummers. She is known as the queen of talking drums. She has performed with several professional American artist like "Stevie Wonder" and she had played for the "Queen of England." |
