CUNY's New Community College

For the past two years John Mogulescu, senior University dean for academic affairs and dean of the School of Professional Studies, has been in charge of developing a new, seventh community college for CUNY -- one that will hopefully see more students succeed. "It is our intention to see if we do things differently, that we can increase the graduation rates," said Dean Mogulescu of the new college. "At the end of the first year, they will not only get a certain amount of credits, but they will be better prepared." He discussed plans for the college, to open by summer 2012, including its innovative approach to retaining students through comprehensive academic summer programs and an intensive first-year, full-time curriculum. "We understand how complicated our students' lives are, but .... if we can provide a meaningful education experience for them, they will step up and meet the challenge of hard work." ...

 

 

 


Lehman College To Present Musical Production of ‘Sleeping Beauty' May 13, 15

The Lehman College Music Department will stage a new musical production of the classic children's story Sleeping Beauty. Directed by Music Professor Penny Prince, the performance will begin at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, in the Music Building's Recital Hall. CUNY Helps China's Autistic

Queens College is partnering with the Wucailu Rehabilitation & Research Center to help improve special-education services for autistic children and their families. Peishi Wang, assistant professor in special education, and her colleagues are helping the center evaluate its programs and conducting online staff training to personnel at the center's three sites in Beijing. Queens College students will have internships there and some center teachers will study at Queens. "We can take our students to China so they can think globally," says Wang. "It's universally beneficial." ...
