Belgrade

Belgrade

Belgrade, also known as white city in Serbian, is a city holding one of the richest parts of history in the city. Belgrade has went through a lot of changes over the years. The history of Belgrade can be stretched back to Roman times when it was called Singidunum. After the Romans lost the region, other tribes and empires conquered and settled in the area during the dark and medieval ages, Belgrade was burnt down numerous times throughout those years. It would continue all the way to the end of 20th century during the last years of the Yugoslav Wars. Today, it remains as the capital of Serbia after the dissolution of Yugoslavia. Most people living in the area live a lifestyle just like the Western world lives today.

The Nikola Tesla Museum

museum

In Belgrade, I want to visit the Nikola Tesla Museum which is located at Krunska 51, Beograd 11000, Serbia. I am quite interested in an inventor who is forgotten in our history books. Tesla interests me over famous inventors such as Thomas Edison because he thought about some ways to make free energy never seen before. The reason why I want to visit the museum is because it contains numerous documents of Nikola Tesla along with several inventions he made over the years. Instead of just sitting back here on my computer screen, I want to see the museum in person while getting a guide to help me learn more about the inventions. Most people don’t remember reading Tesla in history as an inventor. But if you go here, I’m sure you will change your mind about learning the basic history in school.

Sarajevo

Sarajevo

Sarajevo, the field around saray in Turkish, is the capital of Bosnia. While the city has many beautiful tourist destinations, the city has saw many violent wars in in the past. Most of the violence started back in the beginning of the 20th century and would end before the next century turned. It saw many wars just like what Belgrade experienced over the years. Even after the Siege of Sarajevo, the city is coming back from the scars that it has seen over 20 years ago. I would still go there to understand why Sarajevo played many key roles though out the last century. Not only did Sarajevo played key roles back then, but it also attracts many tourists to see the famous places of what Sarajevo has been though during the 20th century. The history there is quite rich just within a 100 years.

The Latin Bridge Museum

Latin Bridge

If there is one place I want to visit, it’s the Latin Bridge Museum. The Latin Bridge is the most infamous scene of the 20th century, where Arch Duke Franz was assassinated by the Black Hand member, Gavrilo Princip. While it was a tragedy in 1914, it should also be a place to remember where WW1 originated from. I may know some knowledge about WW1, but it is best to understand it in detail by traveling to Sarajevo and to analyze the area for myself. Seeing the Latin Bridge Museum will help me fill the void in seeing some WW1 artifacts in Europe the first time. What better place is there to see the place that started WW1 by starting from there? From there, I plan to piece WW1 in chronological order once I visit Sarajevo.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik

The last place that I want to see is Dubrovnik, Croatia. The city is famous for the castles and walls that was built during the medieval era which were used to protect the city from any invaders. It never fell to anyone throughout the whole medieval ages. After the medieval era, the castles where still in use from the Napoleonic era to the siege of Dubrovnik of 1992. Today, it is an attraction to people that want to see the medieval era castles on the coastlines of Europe. However, it would not be a bad idea to see that some of the castles were used to film some TV shows such as Games of Thrones. Since I am a fan of Game of Thrones, I would like to see some of the castles that were used to film the show I watch on HBO.
