FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (ANSWERS)

Students

1A. There are two ways to obtain your transcript. One way is to go to Bronx Community College website, look toward your right hand side and there is a green button that says Site Index. Click on the button, everything is put into alphabetical order, look for the letter R and there is a link for requesting a transcripts. Print out the form, fill it out, and mail it to the college. The second way is to come in person to the Registrar’s Office located at Colston Hall, room 513 and fill out the form.

2A. If the transcripts are going to be sent to other CUNY Colleges then the transcripts are free. But if not a money order of $7.00 must be paid to Bronx Community College.

3A. The transcripts will normally take 5 to 7 business days to be processed, and it through the mail, during registration it will take at least 7 to 10 business days.

4A. If you attend a CUNY College, get approval from your school. Log into the CUNY portal, then click on the link to E-permits, and follow the instructions for further information. If you are not attending a CUNY College, get approval from your school. Create a portal account on the CUNY website, click the link E-permit, and follow the instructions on the page.

5A. Students may download the re-admit form from the Registrar’s Office webpage or they can come into the Registrar’s Office located at Colston Hall, room 513 and obtain a re-admit form. Go to the Bursars Office and pay a non-refundable $10.00 fee. If the student was out of school for more than a year, the student needs to prove their New York State residency. A CUNY residency form can be downloaded from the Registrar’s webpage or they can obtain the form at the Registrar office located at Colston Hall room 513.

6A. If students would like to change their personal information they need to come into the Registrar’s Office located in Colston Hall, room 513 and obtain an application, fill it out, and hand it in. If changes of last name due to marriage, a marriage certificate should be provided, or any other legal matter documents with such change need to be provided. Also students can change their telephone number or address through their CUNY Portal. Click on the link to E-Sims, and there is a link named Address/Telephone Change.

7A. A student can change their curriculum or major in the Registrar Office, room 513 in Colston Hall by filling out the application and submitting it to the front desk. (Students curriculum cannot be changed within the semester. It has to be done in the beginning or end of semester).

8A. It is mandatory for students to speak with an academic adviser located in Sage Hall, room 202 or a faculty adviser located in their major department or a general counselor located in Loew Hall, room 432 before registering. It is suggested that students bring a copy of their degree audit from the CUNY portal. After being released by the adviser, students can go to register on their own. If students do not know how to register online, specific labs will be assigned throughout the registration period. If further assistance is needed, students can come to the Registrar Office located in Colston Hall, room 513.

9A. For different semesters, the dates will be posted or students will be notified.

10A. If students are planning to withdraw from a class, we recommend for all students withdrawing to speak to a Financial Aide counselor. In order to withdraw from a class, a student needs to log in to their OSSES account and click on the withdrawal button. They need to choose the class in which they wish to withdraw and submit it. Follow the instructions and they will receive a message concerning this matter in their Bronx Community College email, when the request will be successfully completed.

11A. Students should come in to the Registrar’s Office located in Colston Hall room 513 and fill out the graduation candidacy form. They will receive a letter in the mail stating their status for graduation in 5 to 7 business days.

12A. Yes, the student can re-take a class he or she has failed. The class must be entered into the registration system by an administrator of the Registrar’s Office.

13A. For further information about the free Summer classes, students can contact Ms.Skelt in Colston Hall, room 210 at (718) 289-5960.

14A. Students need to have 45 or more credits to be able to take the CPE exam, a letter will be sent as an invitation to take the exam including the dates and workshops offered for the exam.

15A. Students should come to the Registrar’s Office located at Colston Hall, room 513 and show a validated Bursars receipt or a validated ID.

16A. Students should check the Academic Calendar or with their professor for the dates.

17A. All dates are posted on the Academic Calendar. If there areany changes they will be posted on the BCC website or through the students BCC e-mail.

18A. The CLIP program, known as the Language Immersion Program is for entering freshmen in need of additional help in the English language.

19A. Students need to come into the Admissions Office located at Loew Hall, room 224 to fill out an application. Students will receive a letter of acceptance in the mail telling them when to come in to register for the CLIP program. If further information is needed, contact Mr. Ray Hubener or Ms. Marelin DeJesus located at Havemeyer Lab, room 202 or (718) 289- 5207.

21A. The library is currently located at the lower level of Meister Hall and they are open seven days a week. On Sundays from noon to 5pm, Mondays – Thursdays from 9am- 9pm, Fridays from 9am- 5pm, and Saturdays from 10am- 5pm. For mid-term and finals week, or further information call (718) 289- 5441.

 

Professors

1A. To send an e-message you can log into OSSES and click e-message under communication channel. A list of the students email address will show up. Just click on it and the email format will be displayed.

2A. In order to change a student’s grade, a change of grade form has to be submitted to the registrar’s office in Colston Hall, room513. The form can be obtained within the academic department .

3A. The college is not allowed to give out any information, students who attend the college are considered adults. Therefore the parent must acquire permission from the student to obtain such information.
