About the Series

The year is 200X, and network technology has advanced to the point where everything is connected to the internet. Yes, everything that you can think of is connected to the internet. Cars, fridges, microwaves, blackboards, the dog house, stereo boomboxes, statues, a bear, a canteen, a tree that serves as the foundation of a hospital, the weather. Yes, EVERYTHING.

Because everything is online, power in this universe is commanded through the Internet; public enemies are those who would destroy cyber-society using bugs and viruses - monsters that attack data. The extreme rise in cyber crime is combatted by the Artificial Intelligent beings known as NetNavis, short for Network Navigators. NetNavis are companions to humanity, aiding them in fantastical and mundane ways, from deleting viruses that prevent the vending machine from working, to reading your emails and answering calls.

Artificial Intelligence that reads emails and answers calls...this is a bit too on the nose.

Mega Man Battle Network is a spin-off series of the original Mega Man games. Released in 2001, the series revolved around one question: what if, instead of Dr. Wily's robotics program being funded, Dr. Light's networking research won the government grant? The series became a cult classic of their own, spanning six mainline games, a few side games, a short lived card game, an anime adaptation, a manga adaptation, merchandise sales, and a sequel series called Mega Man Star Force.

The game is known for it's simple to understand, but hard to master, gameplay. Battles are done on a 3 x 6 grid, where Mega Man is on the left and enemies are on the right. At the beginning of the battle, and every turn, you select cards called Battle Chips. Each Battle Chip has a unique effect that can deal damage, heal, alter the field, summon allies, and more. A turn is about ten seconds, and in that time, your objective is to delete the virus or enemy NetNavi. There are also a multitude of options to customize your gameplay, from changing the chips that appear in your chip folder, running programs on Mega Man to alter his fighting style, or take advantage of one of the many different ways to borrow an ally's power. This is Mega Man, of course.

Released its final entry in 2006, this series has also been known for its almost prophetic nature, in which a multitude of scenarios in the game have taken place in today's world. Certain elements are played up as improbable and fantastical, but the idea of a society completely connected through the internet, to where almost everyone has access to an AI chatbot in their pocket seemed slightly farfetched back then. Who knows, maybe the impossible is just a few breakthroughs on network research away.
This website is here to catalog just a few of the scenarios that have happened in both Mega Man Battle Network and in real life.
