Morgana
Morgana is a mysterious, cat-like being who introduces Ren to the Metaverse and teaches him how to navigate it. Initially suffering from memory loss, Morgana is driven by a desire to uncover his true identity and purpose. He acts as both a mentor and a mascot for the Phantom Thieves, guiding them through Palaces and helping them survive dangerous situations. Despite his small size, Morgana is confident, sometimes prideful, and deeply cares about the team. Over time, he struggles with feelings of inadequacy but ultimately proves his worth as a vital member of the group. His journey centers on self-discovery and understanding what it truly means to belong.
Ryuji
Ryuji Sakamoto is an outspoken and impulsive teenager who was once the star of Shujin Academy’s track team. His future was destroyed when Suguru Kamoshida, an abusive teacher, physically injured him and disbanded the team. As a result, Ryuji became labeled as a delinquent, leading to his social isolation and frustration with authority. Despite his rough personality and tendency to act before thinking, Ryuji is deeply loyal and compassionate, especially toward those who are mistreated. He is one of the first to join Ren and plays a crucial role in forming the Phantom Thieves. His awakening represents his refusal to be controlled or silenced. Ryuji’s growth centers around learning responsibility, teamwork, and what it truly means to fight for justice rather than just acting out of anger.
Ann
Ann Takamaki is a quarter-American student who stands out due to her appearance, which unfortunately leads to rumors, objectification, and social isolation. Her closest friend, Shiho Suzui, suffers abuse at the hands of Kamoshida, and Ann’s guilt over being unable to protect her becomes a major turning point in her story. After confronting this trauma, Ann awakens her Persona, Carmen, symbolizing her reclaiming control over her identity and sexuality. She joins the Phantom Thieves to ensure others don’t suffer like Shiho did. Ann is empathetic and emotionally aware, often acting as the heart of the group. Over time, she grows into a more confident individual who embraces her strength and uses her voice to stand up against injustice and exploitation.
Yusuke
Yusuke Kitagawa is a highly talented but socially awkward art student studying under the famous painter Ichiryusai Madarame. Though initially devoted to his mentor, Yusuke eventually discovers that Madarame is exploiting his students and plagiarizing their work. This betrayal forces him to reevaluate his understanding of art and truth.Yusuke’s awakening to his Persona, Goemon, reflects his desire for artistic purity and honesty. Makoto
Makoto Niijima is the student council president of Shujin Academy and is known for her intelligence, discipline, and strict adherence to rules. Burdened by expectations from both her school and her older sister, a prosecutor, Makoto initially acts as an enforcer of authority rather than questioning it. Her perspective shifts when she witnesses the injustices around her and realizes that blind obedience does not equate to justice. After confronting a dangerous situation involving organized crime, she awakens her Persona, Johanna, representing her rebellion against control. Makoto becomes the Phantom Thieves’ strategist, offering logical analysis and leadership support. Her character arc revolves around defining justice on her own terms and gaining confidence in her independence.
Futaba
Futaba Sakura is a genius hacker who isolates herself from society due to severe trauma and guilt surrounding her mother’s death. Manipulated into believing she was responsible, Futaba develops intense anxiety and withdraws completely from the outside world. Through the Phantom Thieves’ intervention, Futaba confronts her past within her own Palace and awakens her Persona, Necronomicon. Unlike other members, she does not fight directly but serves as the team’s navigator, providing tactical support, analysis, and hacking skills. Futaba’s journey is one of healing, self-acceptance, and reconnecting with others. She gradually becomes more confident, forming meaningful relationships and rediscovering a sense of belonging.
Haru
Haru Okumura is the gentle and polite daughter of Kunikazu Okumura, a powerful businessman who treats his employees as disposable tools. Despite her wealth, Haru feels trapped in a life controlled by her father, including an arranged marriage meant to benefit his company. After witnessing the cruelty within her father’s corporation, Haru awakens her Persona, Milady, and joins the Phantom Thieves to fight against exploitation and greed. She is kind and soft-spoken but possesses a strong inner resolve. Haru’s arc focuses on reclaiming her autonomy and learning to stand up for herself while maintaining her compassion for others.
Akechi
Goro Akechi is a young detective celebrated by the public as a prodigy, often appearing in media as a symbol of justice. Charismatic and intelligent, he initially appears to be an ally to the Phantom Thieves, though he is critical of their methods.
Kasumi
Kasumi Yoshizawa is a talented and disciplined gymnast introduced in Persona 5 Royal. She is admired for her grace and dedication but struggles internally with intense pressure and self-doubt. As the story progresses, it is revealed that her identity and past are more complicated than they initially appear.
