Lorenzo Paintings The Lorenzo family of painters live in the village of Xalitla in the state of Guerrero. The Nahua Indians of Guerrero have a long history of producing amate bark paintings where they portray colorful scenes on paper made from mulberry and fig trees. Lucas Lorenzo, the family patriarch, early in his career began to paint on Masonite board rather than bark. This sturdier background produces a painting that travels well since it is much more substantial than bark paper. Today, Lucas and his children, Santiago, Jesus, Nicholas, Aureliano and Carlota produce paintings in a folk art style that is sometimes affectionately termed “Naïve Art” or “Outsider Art” by collectors. Regardless of the terminology you employ, we know you will find these charming paintings a warm and colorful addition to any location where you choose to display them.
