Budgie Parrots

Also known as pet parakeet or shell parakeet. There are small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot, and the only species is the Australian genus Molopsittacus. They are naturally green and yellow with black, scalloped markings on the nape, back and wings, breeders have created a raibow of blues, whites, and yellows, greys, and even forms with small crests. Due to their small size, Budgerigars are popular pets around the world. They are very low cost pet and have the ability to mimic human speech and playful nature. They are very closely related to the lories and the fig parrots.  The term Budgerigars refers to any of a number of small parrots with long, flat tails.

Parakeets enjoy spending time outside their cages, especially if they have been tamed. Like any parrot budgies have the ability to perform tricks.

Budgies should be given a nice-sized caged with a variety of perch withs and textures to keep their feet in shape. They also like to have swing in the cage. Budgies are very playful and will enjoy beaded toys with bell. Rotate their toys to keep them amused and prevent boredom.

The diet for Budgies is very similar to that of most parrots. A good seed mix, pellets, fresh greens and other vegetables. Fruit should be given on occasion.
