Fantasy Series:

An Introduction to Great Stories

So a little about me...

My name is Alvin T. Strong. I have been reading since I was very young, at around age 4 my grandmother would read to me and I would try to read to her. My love for books began then with Dr. Seuss. I began to read any book I could get my hands on, which let me tell you, isn't easy at that age. But, as I grew my grandmother fed the flame with new books whenever I asked.

I quickly grew tired of children's books with pages filled with pictures instead of words and began to read Goosebumps. I devoured all the books in that series as I began to feed on Animorphs to supplement my cravings between releases. I was also a heavy gamer at the time and some how out of the house equally as much. Reading became a night time activity keeping me up long after my bed time. But, I could not stop. When I turned 18 I joined the Army. This is where I slowed down. I could barely find time to pick up a book.

When I turned 20 I was preparing to deploy to Iraq and I had found time to pick up a few books. My love for reading became apparent to my Platoon. As a medic I was busy sporadically, we worked hard and fast then relaxed. So I carried a book and when we had down time, I read. One of my fellow medics handed me the book Wizard's First Rule before we deployed. I thanked her and put it in my bag. When we got to Kuwait I cracked it open and fell in head first. I read all the books available during the deployment.

That's also when someone told me about The Wheel of Time series. While I waited for the Terry Goodkind to write his next book in the Sword of Truth series I read the Wheel of Time. When I got to the last available book in that series I was disappointed to hear of Jordan's death. Though I did not know him personally his writing was a part of me.

I started reading a lot more with my return from Iraq. Going as far as to spend my last dollar on the next book in a series. This becoming a joke amongst those I spent the most time with. Books were my drug.

I won't bore you with the rest of my life but there were many ups and more downs. I lost people along the way and the books really helped me get through it. That's how I got here, writing this web-page for you. Thank you for taking the time to read it, hope you pick up one of the books..

This is my email if you have any questions or you would like to talk to me about something you've read. Alvin.Strong@stu.bcc.cuny.edu
