Thousands of years following the defeat of the Dragon, we meet three friends: Rand, Mat, and Perrin. All three born close to one another therefore the same age, living in a small village they are all close friends. Rand is the responsible one who understands that duty comes first, yet still finds time to run off with troublemaker. That being Mat, who is a trickster, but never goes back on a promise and also deeply loyal to his friends. Last we have Perrin, apprentice to the blacksmith and having always been the largest of his friends, is also the most gentle. Because of his size Perrin has always felt the need to take things slow and be more careful not to hurt those he plays with. All three are intelligent in their own ways though ignorant due to their lack of experience.
That all changes one day when their lives are turned upsides down. They find themselves on the run from the minions of the Dark One. With the help of an Aes Sedai named Moraine and her Warder Lan, the boys are rushed out of their village, with a tag along by the name of Egwene, whom Rand thought he would marry one day. Egwene figures out who Moraine and Lan are and decides if the boys are going, so is she. When she joins the group a Gleeman by the name of Thom Merrilin decides to go with them. And so they leave to find a way to stop the Dark One. Along the way, they gain riches, they gain power, and one of them reveals them self to be the Dragon Reborn. This story is deep and not for the light reader.
The world is in depth and will draw you in if you let it. The Magic system is related to sex, male users channel Saidan, females Saidar. The two come from the same source known as the One Power. Shai'tan has a power he gives to his champions called the True Source. No power is greater than the other nor good or evil, yet rely on the caster to determine it's use. Saidan, was poisoned by the Dark One's taint when the Dragon last defeated him. As such, male Aes Sedai are "gentled" when found. Removing their power from them and making them safe. If left un-gentled these men all eventually lose control and destroy themselves along with anyone unfortunate enough to be around at the time.
Follow the group as them as they quest, conquer and destroy their enemies, find love and grow from village youths to adults, that together, change the world.

This pilot is not related to the series that is being created by Amazon, to my knowledge. But, it gives you the prelude of the first book. An idea of what happens to The Dragon after he defeats Shai'tan the time before our new story begins.

Following his death, Robert Jordan's wife Harriet McDougall also his editor, found someone to continue and finish his series. Sanderson was a new writer at the time and impressed her enough to get her approval. Using the notes left behind by Jordan he finished the last three books. Jordan originally believed there would only be 2 more, but Sanderson said the amount of notes left behind would not do the story justice without one additional book.
